The Women’s Empowerment Unit at the Nasiriyah Technical Institute within the Southern Technical University organized a workshop on violence against women and girls. The workshop included the title (Violence against women and girls is a scourge that threatens society), and the human rights major Ahmed Majid Kamel, affiliated with the Community Police Department of the Thi Qar Governorate Police Command, lectured. Definition of violence, its types, motives, and its resulting consequences on the individual and society, as well as the impact of violence on female participants physically and psychologically, in addition to how to provide psychological and social support to these women and girls. The workshop, which was attended by the Dean of the Institute, Professor Dr. Khawam Raysan Hussein, aimed to introduce sexual violence, underage marriage, and trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation. The workshop summarized the necessity of reporting cases of violence via the hotline of the Family and Child Protection Directorate to protect them from domestic violence and continuing awareness-raising and legal education about this phenomenon.
