A master’s thesis at Southern Technical University discusses risk factors for pre-diabetes among obese adolescents

A master’s thesis was discussed at the College of Health and Medical Technologies within the Southern Technical University on pre-diabetes risk factors among obese adolescents.

The thesis presented by student Abbas Salman aims to identify risk factors for prediabetes among obese children and adolescents.

The thesis included conducting a case-control study on 155 children suffering from obesity, between the ages of 6-18 years, at Al-Fayhaa Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism in Basra (southern Iraq) during the period from November 1, 2021 to the end of March 2022.

The study recommended that the primary health care provider inform the parents of obese children about the risks of obesity and a healthy eating pattern to reduce the risk of diabetes, as well as the importance of conducting a periodic examination of obese children at an early age.
