Master’s thesis at the Southern Technical University discusses the study of the prevalence of fungal and superficial infections in patients with immunodeficiency and the relationship of risk factors to infection with these diseases in Thi Qar Governorate

The thesis submitted by the student (Marwa Mohammed Wajid) included a study of the prevalence of fungal and superficial infections in patients with immunodeficiency during the period from November 2021 to July 2022,

A sectional descriptive study was designed. This study included 500 samples of patients suffering from superficial fungi due to a weak immune system, such as cancer patients, diabetes patients, kidney failure and patients with genetic blood diseases.

The results showed that the highest percentage found among the age groups over 45 years was 56% (280), and the percentage of males was about 62% (310) more than the percentage of females 38% (190).

The message aims at the importance of early detection of fungi periodically to start effective treatment and prevent the  complications resulting from it.

The thesis concluded that the presence of fungi in general poses a great danger to this category of patients because their immunity is abnormal and they are exposed to this great danger, which leads to a deterioration in their health condition more than it is.
